1971 Doubled Die Reverse Quarter
Very Rare FS-801, MS65
Only Certified Uncirculated Example
1971 25C Doubled Die Reverse, FS-801, MS65 PCGS. All reverse
legends are clearly die doubled in a counter-clockwise direction.
FS-801 is extremely rare. The Third Edition of
Cherrypickers' stated "only specimen known is XF! Discovered
by Natalie Halpern." Few additional pieces have since emerged;
total NGC Census is four pieces with none above AU53, and PCGS (as
of 1/17) has certified a total of six pieces with only one coin
(the present lot) above AU58. Lustrous and unabraded with light to
medium golden-brown toning. One small spot noted above Washington's
jaw.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2477, Variety PCGS# 5901, Base PCGS# 5887, Greysheet# 374390)
