(1854) 1776 Declaration of Independence Presentation Medal
Uncirculated Uncertified. Baker-53. Silvered bronze, 91 mm.
Charles C. Wright adapted the obverse design from John Trumbull's
famous painting Declaration of Independence, and paired this
with three different reverse motifs. This is an exceedingly rare
silvered bronze variant of the "plaque reverse." The three reverse
types are described in Garrett and Guth's 100 Greatest American
Medals and Tokens. Rose-gold and silver hues encompass each
side, with no unsightly distractions.From The Palos Verdes Collection.
