Description

(1947) Saudi Arabia Gold Pound, MS62
Coined at the Philadelphia Mint, KM-35

(1947) Saudi Arabia, Abdal Aziz bin Saud Gold Pound MS62 NGC. KM-35. The U.S. did not strike gold coins for a 51-year span between 1933 and 1984, with the arguable exception of two unusual issues for Saudi Arabia as a payment for oil. Struck in 1947 at Philadelphia, the gold pound weighed close to a quarter ounce of gold, identical to British sovereigns of the day. Four pound pieces were struck during 1945 and 1946. The present lustrous yellow-gold pound is evenly struck and displays a few delicate marks on the reverse field.
