French Colonies: French Colonial Pieforts and Patterns, this important selection includes many better French and French colonial patterns, many marked ESSAI and all struck at the Paris Mint. The first group of 57 features more modern Piefort (double-thick) issues from France proper, still in the original Paris Mint plastic packaging. The second group of 73 Pieforts are primarily from the French Colonies and date from circa 1948-1960. Most of those issues have official mintages of 104! The third group (62) includes regular ESSAIS from the colonies struck from 1948-1980. Careful examination is highly recommended for this lot as there is substantial catalog value and many unusual types. Sold as is, no returns lot.
