1652 3PENCE Oak Tree Threepence Fine 12 Scratched, Corroded Uncertified. Noe-28, Crosby 6-C, R.4. 15.4 grams. A slate-gray example that has a full date and denomination and nearly complete peripheral legends on the reverse. The obverse is well worn, with only the THV legible. Both sides have numerous faint pinscratches, perhaps applied to remove verdigris. The flan has a crack (as made) near 12 o'clock that approaches the center of the coin. Listed on page 17 of the 2003 Guide Book.

An important, if not problem-free representative of this rare Guide Book variety, the surfaces exhibit generally even wear with excessive loss of detail largely confined to the left-central reverse. The main obverse design elements are suitably outlined with all digits in the date readily discernible. The surface texture is rough and slightly pitted, and both sides exhibit dark charcoal-brown overtones. A few pinscratches over the upper left reverse are also noted.

1793 Chain 1C AMERICA--Damaged, Corroded--ANACS. Fine Details, Net VG8. S-4, High R.3. This coin is certainly not problem-free, but it is a respectable representative of this important one-year type from the 18th century. The date has been lost to circulation, as has much of the detail over the obverse portrait, but LIBERTY is sharp and the diagnostic period following the Y is readily evident. The reverse is sharper--as befits the type--with the central design element bold and all peripheral letters discernible. The mahogany-brown surfaces are a little rough in texture with scattered pinscratches and indentations.

1793 1C Liberty Cap Good 6 ANACS. S-13, Low R.4. The Liberty Cap is the third Cent type delivered by the Philadelphia Mint in 1793. Produced to the extent of just 11,056 pieces, the 1793 is the first issue in this four-year series. The present survivor displays rich mahogany-brown coloration over extensively worn features. The date, however, is discernible, as all other major design elements. Light porosity, numerous obverse edge bruises, and a graze in the field above the date are noted.

1856 1C --Repaired, Whizzed--ANACS. XF Details, Net VF20. Snow-5. We do not know exactly how many examples of the Snow-5 die marriage were produced by the Mint, but Snow (2001) states that these coins were among the first Flying Eagle Cents prepared in 1856. The coin in this lot is overall bold in detail with some light wear that is only readily evident over the highest points of the design. The reverse, as well as the obverse periphery, displays curious tan and cobalt coloration. The central obverse, on the other hand, is bright with a pinkish sheen. Both sides are glossy in texture with scattered distractions that include a few moderate obverse scrapes.
