1891 AU 55 Cleaned. Quite prooflike, even after 5 points of wear and evidence of light cleaning. This elusive P-mint is one of just 1,442 pieces struck. Of the two dozen or so 1891 twenties offered over the past half century (probably a good estimate of its business strike population), most have graded either XF or AU. Neither PCGS or NGC has graded a mint state coin as of January 1999, though a few are reported to exist, including one gem sold by NERCG in 1977. Still, this must be considered one of the finest pieces likely to enter the market for quite some time. (PCGS# 9016)

1853 One Cent, Judd-151, Pollock-178, R.5, AU 58 PCGS. Small cent pattern with the obverse design similar to the quarter eagle, the reverse has ONE CENT in the center, surrounded by a laurel wreath. Struck in either German silver or a nickel alloy with a reeded edge. Slight friction has dulled the light gray surfaces and there are specks of carbon on each side as well as deeper, charcoal-gray patina surrounding the devices. (PCGS# 11628)

1870 Quarter, Judd-901, Pollock-1016, R.7, PR 62 PCGS. The bust of Liberty faces right on the obverse with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll below. Liberty's hair is tied in a bun. On the reverse, the denomination 50 CENTS and date 1870 are in a wreath of cotton and corn with the inscription STANDARD above. Struck in silver with a plain edge. The surfaces are toned a light gray with charcoal peripheral accents. An elusive pattern, this is the first we have offered in some time. (PCGS# 61145)
