1832 1C Medium Letters MS65 Brown NGC. MS60+ EAC. N-1, Intermediate Die State, R.2. The reverse die has a crack from the base of the final A, through the wreath stem and ribbon end, to the lower part of UNIT. In later states this crack extends to the base of C in AMERICA. Numerous Mint State examples of this variety are known, although most are just MS60 per EAC standards. This example, slightly nicer, is among the 10 finest of the variety. The surfaces are fully lustrous with splendid medium brown color intermingled with olive, pale blue, and original mint red.

1832 1C Medium Letters MS66 Brown NGC. MS60+ EAC. N-2, Low R.3. This is an amazing example with fully lustrous olive and golden-brown surfaces and hints of steel-blue toning. Struck from an intermediate die state with partial border details. The obverse has a crack joining stars 5 through 10. Both sides have extensive die flowlines extending the stars and letters to the border. This coin is tied for the finest certified by NGC, with just two 1832 large cents garnering the MS66 grade. In both the Robinson S. Brown sale and the Century sale, Superior offered this cent as the fourth finest known example of the variety, a status that we believe it still holds.

1832 1C Medium Letters MS66 Brown NGC. N-1, R.2. Fully struck in the centers with slight softness evident on the reverse wreath. Even though labeled as a brown coin and covered with an even layer of rich chocolate-brown patina, the coin has an extraordinary amount of glossiness. Problem-free throughout, this is the finest example certified at either of the major services. (PCGS# 1690)

1832 1C Medium Letters MS63 Brown NGC. AU55 EAC. N-2, Early Die State, Low R.3. Recutting or other die damage is noted at ED ST, indicating an early die state. In later states most or all of this recutting is absent. This is a slightly scarcer variety although far from rare, and is available in all grades including Gem Mint State. This example is not far from the Condition Census. The choice surfaces have delightful olive and light brown color with slightly darker toning on the highpoints.
