1855 1C Upright 5s MS66 Red PCGS. N-4, R.1. Die State A. This variety is most easily characterized by lumps on each side, that is, two relatively large lumps near the jawline on the obverse and a tiny lump on the top of the N in CENT on the reverse. This blazing red cent is one of the finest type coins we have seen in recent memory, in addition to being one of the finest of the date and variety.

1855 1C Upright 5s MS66 Red NGC. The strike on both sides of this coin is truly remarkable for a Coronet Cent from this era. The peripheral devices are uncommonly bold, this despite some hallmark incompleteness of detail over the obverse star centrils, and the central design elements are razor sharp. Rich cherry-red luster flows over both sides in the virtual absence of distracting blemishes. We do note a few faint spots near the lower obverse rim, but they are only evident at direct angles, and none are outwardly distracting. Perfect for high quality type purposes. Population: 5 in 66 Red, there are none finer at NGC or PCGS (10/02).
