1873 1C Doubled LIBERTY MS64 Brown PCGS. FS-009, Snow-1. In addition to the letters in the word LIBERTY, doubling is evident on Liberty's eye, lips, and nose tip. Now nearly a half century after its discovery, this variety's legitimate rarity and dramatic doubling has made it one of the most sought-after Indian cent issues. Glossy brown surfaces are generally well struck and retain traces of faded sunset-orange color about the devices. A couple of unobtrusive marks in the field to the left of the shield on the reverse, and a few more on the lower right part of the shield, may help to identify the coin. This is a late die state of the variety with a die crack through the base of the date. Population: 4 in 64 Brown, 0 finer (11/06). (PCGS# 2115)

1873 1C Doubled LIBERTY MS64 Brown NGC. Snow-1. This is the more desirable of the two known varieties of the doubled die 1873 Closed 3 Cent. Readily identifiable by bold obverse doubling on the letters in LIBERTY, Liberty's eye and profile, and the feather stems. This variety was first reported in 1957, and, while several examples have been discovered since, Snow (1992) still assigns it an R.5 rating with an extant population of perhaps 50 coins in all grades. The Condition Census that he lists in the book Flying Eagle and Indian Cents reads: 64; 64; 63; 60; 60; 60; 58. Clearly among the finest coins extant, the present near-Gem is richly toned in glossy brown shades. Isolated whispers of subdued mint luster are still evident in the more protected areas around the peripheries, but only at direct angles. The doubling is readily evident with a loupe, and the only worthwhile pedigree marker is a nearly horizontal abrasion on Liberty's portrait below and behind the eye. Population: 9 in 64, 1 finer (11/04). (PCGS# 2115)

1873 1C Doubled LIBERTY AU58 PCGS. FS-009, Snow-1. An exceedingly difficult variety with the word LIBERTY clearly doubled on the Indian's headband, and doubling at the eye, nose, and lips equally visible. This issue is missing from most Indian Cent collections. The surfaces are a pleasing chestnut-brown with reddish-golden accents in the most protected areas. Certified as Brown by NGC, but substantial orange-red color remains despite mellowing on the lower central obverse and beneath CENT. A small spot on the cheek and a handling mark near the CA in AMERICA limit the grade. (PCGS# 2115)

1873 1C Doubled LIBERTY AU55 PCGS. FS-9. Snow-1. The more desirable of the two known varieties of the doubled die 1873 Closed 3 Cent. being identifiable by bold obverse doubling on the letters in LIBERTY, Liberty's eye and profile, and the feather stems. Both sides retain considerable glossiness and display even chocolate-brown color. A horizontal die crack connects the bases of the digits in the date to the borders on either side and a small lamination can be seen between the first and second feather. Population: 11 in 55, 16 finer (10/03). (PCGS# 2115)
