1887 1C PR66 Red PCGS. This coin displays razor sharp striking detail with full mint luster that is mostly golden-red and crimson-red in color. Suggestions of golden-blue shades are also evident, particularly around the obverse periphery. Shimmering, glassy reflectivity is evident in the fields as the coin rotates under the light. Although not widely recognized as such, the 1887 (2,960 pieces produced) is one of the more conditionally challenging proof Indian Cents from this era. Many specimens were poorly produced and even more carelessly stored. This is one of only three Red PR66s thus far certified by both services, none are finer (10/03).

1887 1C PR65 Red PCGS. Eagle Eye Photo Seal. This coin displays razor sharp striking detail with full mint luster that is mostly pinkish-red in color. Suggestions of orange-red and golden-blue shades are also evident, particularly around the reverse periphery. Shimmering, glassy reflectivity is evident in the fields as the coin rotates under the light. A short and inconspicuous lintmark (as made) is encountered below Liberty's ear. Although not a low mintage issue, full Red proofs of this date are very rare. 1887 1C PR65 Red PCGS. This date is surprisingly challenging for the advanced collector. The mintage for proofs was 2,960 pieces, but very few examples are known today in Gem condition and with full red color. The 1887 is often found with lighter color than usual, but this piece has the full, traditional red mint luster. Magnification shows pristine surfaces with no mentionable defects on either side. Population: 10 in 65, 2 finer (9/06).

1887 1C PR64 Red PCGS. A very difficult proof issue to find in "full red," this example portrays a much better than average strike than is typically found on 1887 proofs. The four diamonds, save for the bottom-most one, display virtual full definition. The feathertips on the headdress, however, remain somewhat soft. The surfaces are a bright coppery-gold, and display just a couple of minute marks on the Indian's cheek and in the left (facing) obverse field. Population: 10 in 64, 11 finer (3/05). (PCGS# 2350)
