1895 1C PR66 Red PCGS. This is a sensational Gem with an accompanying Eagle Eye Photo Seal sticker and certificate. This cent is also housed in an older green-label PCGS holder, suggesting that it may be a candidate for resubmission. The fields are deeply mirrored around lustrous devices, presenting a slight cameo appearance. The strike is sharp, and the surfaces have exquisite bright orange color with a hint of lilac toning. 1895 1C PR 66 Red PCGS. An undeniably original proof, both sides radiate crimson-orange luster. Deeper olive accents are also noted on both sides, particularly in the fields. We can find no hairlines or striking deficiencies that would call into question the assigned grade.

The last three digits in the date have been repunched east. Snow (1992) states that this is a scarce die variety, and examples may have comprised only one third of this issue's original mintage. Population: 12 in 66, with only 3 finer (10/00).

1895 1C PR66 Red PCGS. Eagle Eye Photo Seal. Richly colored in cherry-red shades, the crisply impressed surfaces are sharply, if not fully defined over every device. An obviously early impression, both sides exhibit pleasingly mirrored qualities with an "orange peel" texture discernible under a loupe. There are a few isolated blushes of faint haziness, but no sizeable or overly bothersome blemishes. Conditionally scarce. Population: 14 in 66 Red, there are only three finer (1/03).

1895 1C PR66 Red PCGS. Breen-2027. Breen describes the repunched 895, but doesn't explain if it appears on proofs, business strikes, or on both. He suggests it is "very scarce." This coin is still a red proof by designation, but the surfaces have toned to a handsome sunset orange that sparkles as if off a placid lake of fire from the nicely mirrored fields. (PCGS# 2374)

1895 1C PR66 Red PCGS. Eagle Eye Photo Seal. Crimson-orange color overlays both sides of this lustrous Gem. We do note, however, that the color is a little richer on the reverse, but sharp striking definition is readily evident throughout. This solidly graded specimen is a conditionally scarce survivor of this later date issue in the proof Indian Cent series. Population: 14 in 66 Red, 3 finer (10/02).

1895 1C PR66 Red PCGS. Eagle Eye Photo Seal (card not included). A later striking as there is little of the "orange-peel" surface evident that is often seen on this issue. This is a very deeply mirrored example that has even reddish coloration over each side--a well balanced coin from side-to-side with no obvious or distracting contact marks, just a tiny speck of carbon and a lint mark on each side. Population: 14 in 66, 3 finer (4/03).

There are two pinpricks in the left obverse field near the Indian's nose, and a noticeable dark spot near the reverse denticles between 1 and 2 o'clock. The 895 of the date are visibly recut. Only five pieces have been certified finer by NGC and PCGS (6/99). (PCGS# 2374)

1895 1C PR65 Red PCGS. The first of two exquisite representatives of this late date proof Indian Cent from the 19th century, both sides exhibit glowing reddish-orange luster. Pinpoint striking definition is one of the most impressive features of the surfaces, but it is not the only one. Also worthy of praise are modest, yet pleasing mirrors in the fields and a lack of all but a few trivial carbon flecks.
