1944-D/S 1C MS66 Red PCGS. OMM-1. Bold remnants of the undermintmark are readily evident north of the D. This is the more desirable of the two known varieties of the 1944-D/S overmintmark. As a date, the 1944-D is the most consistently attractive of the six Lincoln Cent issues delivered in 1944-1945. The present example is bursting with fulsome mint luster that is mostly cherry-red in sheen, although some lighter pink-red shades are noted on the reverse. Sharply struck with frosty textured features and a couple of not overly distracting planchet streaks on the reverse. Both major grading services have certified only 11 1944-D/S Cents at the present level of preservation, and there is only one coin finer at NGC (7/02). (PCGS# 2728)

1944-D/S 1C MS66 Red NGC. FS-021. OMM-2. Probably the most attractive example of this scarce overmintmark variety that we have ever examined. Remnants of the underlying S mintmark are easily discernible using a magnifier, as are a shallow planchet flaw (as struck) on the upper right obverse field, and a rather thick die crack that extends across the top of Lincoln's temple. Lustrous and beautifully struck, the coin exhibits rich copper-red toning with greenish accents. Both sides of the piece reveal outstanding preservation and the absence of mentionable marks. The obverse actually seems entirely pristine. Census: 7 in 66, 1 finer (3/06). (PCGS# 2728)

A scarce overmintmark variety, this piece is well struck and lustrous, with minimally marked surfaces that are especially clean on the reverse. Lilac toning appears on the upper obverse, along with two or three minor contact marks. Population: 30 in 64 Red, 18 finer (3/05).
