1867 3CN PR66 Cameo PCGS. While the third-year 1867 is certainly not the rarest date in the proof Three Cent Nickel series, examples with a cameo finish are elusive in today's market. Even so, we are offering two survivors at the PR66 Cameo grade level in this sale. The present PCGS-certified example is also untoned with smooth, carefully preserved surfaces. The cameo contrast is unmistakable, and the eye appeal is as impressive as one would expect for the assigned grade. Population: 4 in 66 Cameo, none are finer (9/02). (PCGS# 83763)

1867 3CN PR66 Cameo PCGS. One of two 1867 Three Cent Nickels in this sale graded PR66 Cameo, this coin displays more of an untoned appearance than the NGC-certified example. There is very little patination, with the surfaces displaying a bright, silver-white sheen. A virtually pristine survivor with an otherwise needle sharp strike that wanes ever so slightly in the center of the reverse. Population: 2 in 66 Cameo, none are finer at PCGS (7/02). (PCGS# 83763)

This is a brilliant example whose deeply reflective mirrors are only interrupted by slight granularity in the reverse fields. A stunning, high grade example that shows significant mint frost over the devices, which provides noticeable cameo contrast against the "blackness" in the fields.

1867 3CN PR66 Cameo PCGS. The 1867 three cent nickel is always of interest to collectors as only 625 or so proofs were struck, which is one of the lowest production runs in the series. This is a high quality example that has deeply mirrored, flashy fields with noticeably frosted devices. Brilliant throughout; magnification shows a few tiny lint marks, especially on the reverse, but the most obvious one is in the left obverse field in front of the tip of Liberty's nose.
