1824 50C MS66 PCGS. Ex: Eliasberg. O-113, R.1. Sharply defined in the centers with the only area of weakness being on the star centrils (and that is minor). The surfaces are essentially perfect and highly lustrous with rich golden toning that is surrounded by blue and sea-green coloration at the peripheries. This is easily the finest known example of this common variety with the Condition Census listed in Overton's third edition as: (63, 63, 62, 60, 60).

1824 50C MS66 PCGS. O-117, R.1. Two mint-made spikes from the left (facing) wing identify this die pairing. Golden-brown and dove-gray patina graces the obverse, while the reverse has aqua-tinged borders and orange-gray color throughout the centers. A well struck and lustrous premium Gem with clean surfaces and outstanding eye appeal. The combined NGC Population for all 1824 Overton varieties is 11 in 66, 2 finer (9/04). (PCGS# 6137)

1824 50C MS66 NGC. O-105, R.2. Few finer examples of this date have been certified. In fact, NGC has only seen two coins that they described better. It is a gorgeous Premium Gem example with fully lustrous surfaces beneath lovely russet, golden-brown, blue-green, and pale amber toning across both surfaces. This is probably the finest example of the variety to appear in auction, and it was this same coin that appeared in the October 2004 Rarities Sale held by Bowers and Merena. In fact, it is possible that this example is the single finest known of the O-105 die pairing. It is a sharply struck example from perfect dies exhibiting only light clash marks. There is no evidence of die cracks or other defects. The numismatic connoisseur will appreciate the exceptional aesthetic appeal of this Premium Gem example. (PCGS# 6137)

1824 50C MS65 NGC. O-105, R.2. Toned with iridescent blues and greens around the edge, with the centers a bright russet-gold. Ample luster shines through to please the eye, and the strike is typical for this variety, with most of the stars weak at their centers but the curls strong. Close examination of the surfaces fails to find significant fault as expected for this lofty grade, and the only complaint we note is a small speck below the right wing of the eagle. About as nice as this date is usually found, with very few known that survive in gem grades. Population: 19 in 65, 8 finer (11/04). (PCGS# 6137)

1824 50C MS65 NGC. O-105, R.2. Gray-crimson toning occupies the centers, giving way to aqua blue and bright yellow coloration around the borders. The design elements are crisply struck, save for softness in the hair curl adjacent to the lower rear of Liberty's cap, and on the star centers along the upper and right obverse border. The surfaces are highly lustrous, and are seemingly free of any significant abrasions. A couple of small ticks on Liberty's cheek are mentioned for the sake of accuracy. 1824 50C MS65 NGC. O-104, R.2. A beautifully preserved example of this ever popular type. Both sides exhibit abundant shadings of blue-green and reddish-gold. In no way does the beautiful toning inhibit the underlying sparkling luster. Well struck and showing some interesting die clashing in the reverse field. In checking our records for the past several years, this is the finest 1824 Half Dollar we have been able to offer in some time. A must-see item for the collector who appreciates beautiful color and high quality. (PCGS# 6137)

1824 50C MS 65 PCGS. O-105, R.2. This coin is incorrectly labeled on the insert as an example of the 1824 Overdate variety. The surfaces are dripping with satin luster that provides brisk cartwheel effects. Neither side reveals distracting striking incompleteness, but a few of the obverse stars lack fully defined centrils. With no mentionable abrasions and pleasing eye appeal, this coin belongs in a Gem quality type collection. Population: 7 in 65, 3 finer (10/00).

Both sides show vivid sea-green iridescence about the peripheries that lightens to uneven russet shades in the centers. The sharp strike is well above average for the series. The underlying surfaces exhibit intense satin luster and just a couple of small blemishes on each side, including a faint pinscratch on Liberty's cheek. Simply put, this is an attractive, desirable coin that deserves a carefully considered bid. Population: 17 in 65, 8 finer (4/03).

1824 50C MS64 NGC. O-108, R.2. This variety is characterized by star 7 nearly touching the milling, a pronounced center dot between crossbars 4 and 5, and the I in PLURIBUS below the Right side of the second T in STATES. Bright, fully lustrous surfaces are essentially untoned, save for whispers of golden-brown, electric-blue, and lavender peripheral toning. The design elements are well brought up, save for softness in the star centers along the left (facing) border. Sharp definition is also noted on the reverse elements, except for the A in STATES and the R in PLURIBUS, and a strike through is visible between the U and the R. An exceptionally sharp Capped Bust half dollar. Census: 31 in 64, 25 finer (2/06).
