1873 $1 PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC.
(PCGS# 97021)
Auction 1188
| Lot: 5738 | Aug 10, 2013
Sold For:
$35,250.00
1860 Proof Set PR64 to PR66 PCGS.
This is a wonderful matched set that includes:
Cent PR65,
Delightful pale gold color with faint traces of iridescent toning and relatively few tiny spots;
Silver Three Cent PR65,
Lightly reflective proof surfaces with steel-gray color and blue toning;
Half Dime PR66,
Pale gold color is accented by sea-green and iridescent toning;
Dime PR66,
A gorgeous Gem with light rose and bluish-green color;
Quarter PR66,
Highly attractive with outstanding blue and green toning around light magenta coloration;
Half Dollar PR65 Cameo,
Nearly identical to the quarter with mirrored fields and lustrous devices, surrounded by sea-green and rose toning;
Silver Dollar PR64 Cameo,
A lovely dollar with reflective fields and satiny devices beneath deep lilac, steel-blue, and iridescent color. Bowers (1992) states, "Only 527 [proof Silver Dollars] were eventually sold, and the rest were consigned to the melting pot." (Total: 7 Coins)

1873 $1 PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC.
Doubled Motto. Dave Bowers described this in his
Silver Dollar Encyclopedia
as a doubled reverse die, although it may be just that the motto is doubled. Both Proof examples in the Jack Lee Collection have similar reverse features. This is a remarkable example with amazing contrast, the devices being highly lustrous and the fields deeply mirrored. It has a sensational black and white appearance. NGC has certified two finer examples of this date, one PR67 Ultra Cameo and the other PR68 Ultra Cameo. Population: 1 in 66, 2 finer (10/05).
Ex: Rod Sweet Collection (Bowers and Merena, 7/2005), lot 1034.

1867 Silver Proof Set PR64 to PR65 PCGS.
A partial set that includes all silver denominations in addition to the Three Cent Nickel. This quality set includes:
Silver Three Cent PR65,
A well struck Gem, originally toned in salmon-pink, olive, and cobalt-blue colors;
Three Cent Nickel PR64,
A needle-sharp specimen with pastel sky-blue and lime tints and a few carbon flecks;
Half Dime PR64,
Intricately struck and richly toned in dappled golden-brown, sea-green, and navy-blue tones;
Dime PR64,
Exactingly struck and luxuriously toned in peach, plum, and lemon colors;
Quarter PR64,
A needle-sharp near-Gem bathed in mauve, apple-green, and tan-gold colors;
Half Dollar PR64,
A razor-sharp strike and attractively toned in luminous blended electric-blue, violet, and salmon-pink toning;
Silver Dollar PR64,
This well struck near-Gem also displays deep original color, dominated by swirls of honey, forest-green, rose-pink, and powder-blue tints. 625 sets were minted. All pieces are encapsulated in green label PCGS holders. (Total: 7 coins)

1873 $1 PR63 Deep Cameo PCGS.
Lavish reflectivity in the fields and sensational frosting on the devices ensure the Deep Cameo designation of this visually bewitching example. A small abrasion on the eagle's upper right (facing) wing and milky fingerprint remnants on the upper right obverse limit the grade. A scarce Deep Cameo specimen from this low mintage final-year issue. Population: 3 in 63 Deep Cameo, 8 finer (1/06).
