1863/2 3CS PR66 NGC. This overdate is extremely rare in MS66, with only 3 such examples graded by NGC to date (9/04) and none finer. This powerfully struck example displays rich cobalt-blue and russet toning with virtually no imperfections evident. A small planchet flaw is noticed between the first and second "I"s on the reverse in the roman numeral denomination and is mentioned for complete accuracy. (PCGS# 3713)

1863/2 3CS PR64 PCGS. The Guide Book lists this variety as a so-called overdate, although PCGS has long listed it as an unquestioned overdate. The underlying remnant of what is considered a 2 is visible primarily within the lower loop of the 3. The lower point of the star points to the left side of the 6, differentiating this variety from the normal date coin. The variety has proven to be quite scarce, with only 61 pieces reported by PCGS in all grades (3/20). This example is sharp and deeply mirrored, showing modest field-device contrast. Population: 14 in 64, 12 finer (3/20). (PCGS# 3713)

1863/2 3CS PR64 NGC. The 1863/2 Overdate is a scarce and desirable variety that comprises just a small portion of the 460 proof trimes issued during the year. This is more correctly described as 1863/1862. All four digits are sharply doubled below. Walter Breen suggested that these Proof overdates were actually struck in 1864, based on his observations of die states. Regardless of their time of production, today the 1863/2 Proof overdates are quite rare. Sharply struck with intermingled vivid blue and violet iridescence. The obverse (especially) and reverse exhibit bold cameo contrast underneath the toning. Envelope Included. (PCGS# 3713)
