1869 $1 PR67 Deep Cameo NGC. A simply breathtaking Superb Gem, both sides are devoid of both toning and post-striking impairments. The fully struck devices are heavily frosted above unfathomably deep fields. There is a small line resembling a strike trough visible on the upper portion of the shield on the eagle's breast. This is not individually bothersome, but is only being listed to help future researchers to pedigree this magnificent Silver Dollar. As befits a specimen striking, the definition is sharp, if not complete in all areas. The 1869 is not especially rare as a proof (at least when compared to earlier proofs in the Seated Dollar series), but examples that grade finer than PR64 are elusive. This is the finest Deep Cameo coin known to NGC; PCGS reports a single Deep Cameo example also grading PR67 (10/05).

The reverse die used to strike this coin was heavily polished, with the result that the bottom edge of the scroll on which IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed is attenuated below the first and final letters. In addition, there are several unfinished areas within the reverse shield stripes. Apparently, most proof 1869 Seated Dollars were produced from this die marriage.

1869 $1 PR66 Deep Cameo NGC. A simply breathtaking Gem, both sides are devoid of both toning and post-striking impairments. The fully struck devices are heavily frosted above unfathomably deep fields. There are several small planchet voids (as produced) in the fields on both sides, none of which are individually bothersome. As befits a specimen striking, the definition is sharp, if not complete in all areas. The 1869 is not especially rare as a proof (at least when compared to earlier proofs in the Seated Dollar series), but examples that grade finer than PR64 are elusive. This is the only Deep Cameo coin known to NGC; PCGS reports a further four Deep Cameo examples in grades that range from PR65 through PR67 (1/02).
